part the Managing Committee of the Tropical Diseases Bureau would regret the dissociation of the two bodies and the breaking up of the joint library in the event of the removal of the School to the Institute of Hygiene or elsewhere, and is, there- fore, of opinion that the Bureau should continue to be accommodated under the same roof as the School."
This resolution was passed, and the Committee directed that copies should be sent to the Ministry of Health and to Sir James Michelli.

No. 24.
MINUTES OF THE THIRTY-FIRST MEETING OF THE MANAGING COMMITTEE OF THE TROPICAL DISEASES BUREAU, HELD ON FRIDAY, THE 24th November, 1922.
Present:
SIR J. ROSE-BRADFORD (Chairman). COLONEL A. BALFOUR,
SIR WILLIAM LEISHMAN.
SIR JOHN MCFADYEAN.
SIR STEWART STOCKMAN.
MR. W. C. HANKINSON (Secretary),
DR. A. G. BAGSHAWE, Director of the Bureau, also attended.
1. The Minutes of the Thirtieth Meeting* of the Committee were approved.
2. A statement of receipts and expenditure for the half-year, April to September, 1922, was received. (Copy annexed.)
3. The Director reported that since the last meeting he had received informa. tion that the contribution from the Government of India was to be reduced to £250 and that from Jamaica to £50. Dr. Bagshawe also read a letter on the general financial position of the Bureau, and suggested that it might be well to appoint a sub-committee consisting of two members of the Committee, the Director and the Secretary, to examine the position. Sir W. Leishman moved that a sub-committee be appointed to review the financial position and prospects of the Bureau, and advise what measures should be taken to place it on a secure economic foundation. This was seconded by Sir John McFadyean, and passed unanimously. Sir Herbert Read and Colonel Balfour were appointed to serve on the sub-committee, together with Dr. Bagshawe and the Secretary.
4. The Committee then considered certain proposals for the superannuation of the Bureau staff, and decided after some discussion that this question should be referred, in the first instance, to the Sub-Committee.
5. Dr. Bagshawe then suggested that Dr. Harold Scott, who did most of the Bureau translation work, should be appointed a Sectional Editor for Translations; he explained that this would effect a srball saving. The Committee approved of the appointment of Dr. Scott, as from 30th November, at a salary of £60 for a minimum of 100 references, any reference above that number being paid at 158.
