States, in reply to No. 104, that as Glossine have never been found in the Government the Protectorate consider they would not be justified in contributing to the support of the proposed scheme of investigation.

Transmits copies of the Report of the Imperial Entomological Conference and copies of despatches and letters to the reepecting contributions Research Fund.

Agrees, in reply to No. 104, as to the fly further taetse necessity for investigation, but fears that the finances of the Protectorate could only bear small part of the cost; states that the present shortage of staff renders it impossible to detail any local officers for the work con- templated; and urges that services of Dr. Lamborn be secured to con- tinue his researches in Nyasaland.

States, in reply to No. 104, that the Executive Council advise that Gov- ernment should make an annual grant of £2,000 towards expenses incurred in connexion with the con- trol of tsetse fly; the Principal Medical Officer suggests that Dr. Corson would be suitable for the work, but

someone would be required to replace him; considers that the unexpended portion of the sum voted for yellow fever investiga- tions should still be retained for that purpose.

Points out with reference to the shortage of medical staff mentioned in No. 118 that his letter of the 3rd August agreed to the request made by the Principal Medical Officer for the appointment of certain Medical Officers.

States that the Government welcomes the proposal conveyed in No. 104 and will contribute £150 per annum; suggests that initial experimental stations should be set up in the Gambia River; regrets that he is unable to detail an officer for work

under the scheme owing to the smallness of the staff.

States, with reference to No. 104, that the Government favours the pro- posed investigation and is willing to contribute such proportion of expen- diture as may be determined by the Colonial Office; names two doctors as investigators; submits copy of minute by Dr. Rice, together with copies of memoranda by Drs. Wat- son and Johnson pn the subject, and adds that if necessary Government is prepared to pay all

expenses incurred locally.

States, in reply to No. 104, that the Government agrees to the unex- pended portion of the sum voted for yellow fever investigation being utilized for tsetse fly investigation; but regrets that the present financial position does not justify the Govern- ment voting a lump sum for this purpose; reports that the Acting Principal Medical Officer considers that the Colony is not in a position to detail a Medical Officer for work under the scheme.

Transmite copy of despatch from Mr. Scott, Cairo, covering a memo- randum embodying the observations of the Sudan Government on the control of tsetse fly in Africa.
