It was thought that this course might serve to prevent the application of the scheme to the former class of vessel being delayed for a decision in regard to the latter class.
The Secretary was instructed to prepare revised drafts on this basis, pro- viding for the amendments in other directions which were agreed upon in the course of the discussion, for consideration at the next meeting.

ADMIRAL SIR E. J. W. SLADE, K.C.I.E., K.C.V.O. (Chairman). MR. H. N. BUNBURY, C.B., Treasury.
MR. H. W. MALKIN, C.M.G., Foreign Office.
MR. L. D. WAKELY. India Office.
MR. C. TENNYSON, C.M.G., Colonial Office. MR. T. H. HOLT, O.B.E., Crown Agents. MR. G. A. JONES acted as Secretary.
Mr. Tennyson was present only during the discussion of the first five items.
1.
The minutes the One Hundred and Fifty-second Meeting and the report
The
of the Sub-Committee for the quarter ended the 30th September were confirmed.
2. 8.0." Clevedon.”—Mr. Holt mentioned that this vessel, on voyage from New York to Melbourne with general cargo, had put into Durban disabled. Managers were of opinion that the repairs would occupy some weeks, and had tele- graphed to the Captain authorizing the work being put in hand. This action was confirmed.
The vessel was under charter to load a cargo of wheat from Melbourne to the United States, and the charterers had asked for certain options on the ground that the position in regard to wheat supplies is such that vessels are not now required to load wheat for the United States. It was decided that the question of options must remain in abeyance pending the repair of the ship.
3. 8.v. "Terpsichore."-Mr. Holt reported that the charterers of this vessel were persisting in their request that the vessel should be moved to New York for loading, on account of the difficulty in securing a cargo at Baltimore. The Com- mittee were of opinion that the charterers should be called upon to load in Baltimore in accordance with the Charter Party, if possible.
4. Schooners "Leonor" and "Oregon.”—Mr. Tennyson mentioned that in correspondence between the Colonial Office and the Foreign Office it had been decided that these vessels should be requisitioned for service in Canadian trade, The Canadian subject to the proviso that they were not to visit Mexican ports. Government had been asked by telegraph whether they would desire to run the vessels or whether His Majesty's Government might make the necessary arrange- ments, and His Majesty's Procurator-General was being asked to apply to the Prize Court for the requisition Orders. In the event of the desired Orders being obtained and the Canadian Government not requiring the vessels, the Ministry of Shipping had intimated that the Committee should be asked to arrange for their employment. In any case the vessels would have to be used in Canadian trade.
5. Eighth Interim Report (concerning the utilization of prize vessels for the replacement of requisitioned vessels lost through war risk).—Å revised draft was considered and amended. The report was to be reprinted as altered and brought up for further consideration at the next meeting.

6. 8.S. Conargo (late Altona ").--Mr. Bunbury mentioned that the Ministry of Shipping had received a claim from the Commonwealth Government line of steamers for the value of this ship at the date of her loss. The vessel was sentenced to detention by the Prize Court in Victoria, from whence she had been requisitioned and taken over by the Commonwealth Government. The latter sub sequently lent the vessel to the Ministry of Shipping, in whose service the vessel was running when sunk by enemy action.
The Committee considered that the Ministry of Shipping should be advised to refer the claim to the Colonial Office for any observations which they may have to offer.
7. Sale of prize vessels.—Mr. Bunbury suggested that consideration should be given to the question of the immediate sale of the prize vessels not utilized under the replacement scheme which had been put forward by the Ministry of Shipping
