S.v. Bellas."-Mr. Holt reported that this ship had arrived at Liverpool

and would shortly have completed the discharge of her cargo. It was agreed that

he might accept the managers' suggestion to load her to the Plate with coal and back to the United Kingdom with grain, if an outward cargo could be secured.

Mr. Evans undertook to make inquiries with regard to the charge of £170 for the tug which towed the ship into port at Liverpool.

3. 8.8. "Koerber."The Secretary read to the Committee a letter from Messrs. Glanvill, Enthoven and Company reporting the amounts due from the underwriters of the ship and cargo and also from the Committee, in consequence of the general average adjustment arising out of the fire which occurred before this vessel left Alexandria. Mr. Holt reported that it was usual for the brokers who were instructed to collect the amount due from the underwriters to be paid a com- mission of one per cent. on the sums collected, but Messrs. Glanvill, Enthoven and Company were willing to collect the amount from the cargo underwriters and to waive any commission on that amount. Mr. Malkin undertook to telegraph to Alexandria to find out whether there was any objection on the part of the Marshal to Messrs. Glanvill, Enthoven and Company being instructed to collect the amount due in respect of the cargo.

4. s.v. “Carl.”—The Secretary read a report from the Captain as regards the attempts made to get the ship off. It was understood that the managers hoped that the ship would be got off at the next spring tide.

The Secretary also reported that the Admiralty had now decided that the vessel was not required to load mahogany from Belize.

5. 8.8. Nicolaos."

.”—Mr. Holt reported that the profit made on the voyage of this ship from Alexandria would amount approximately to £2,500, excluding the amount allowed for uninsured risks

The Committee decided that, in the special circumstances of this case, a gratuity of £10 should be paid to the Captain for his services in bringing the ship home.

They also decided that £68 might be paid to Messrs. Basil Smith and Company on account of their brokerage on the freight, subject to refund later should this be necessary. Mr. Holt pointed out that the commission was charged on a freight of £6,800, whereas so far only £6,700 in freight had been collected.

The Secretary reported that the purchasers had completed the purchase and that the ship had actually been handed over to them on the 19th of December, but that, for the purpose of the payment of the twenty-five per cent. of the purchase money still due, delivery would be deemed to have been taken on the 6th of December, the date on which the purchasers were bound to complete under the conditions of sale. The Secretary also stated that a report had been received from His Majesty's High Commissioner for Egypt to the effect that His Majesty's
