presented late, thus causing great inconvenience. In the present statement the printing account for the Tropical Veterinary Bulletin was for a period ended December, 1918. The Secretary was directed to look into the matter.
Dr. Bagshawe reported that the sales of Bulletins and advertisements had yielded £642 108. 4d., representing the highest point reached, and an increase of over twenty-five per cent. on the corresponding period in 1919-1920. This was the first statement of sales since the Bureau had taken over the distribution of the Bulletins, advertisements, etc. The number of subscribers to the Tropical Diseases Bulletin on 30th September, 1920, was 540, and to the Tropical Veterinary Bulletin,
196.
Dr. Bagshawe suggested that now that New Zealand was interested in the Pacific the Dominion Government might be asked to make an annual contribution of £100 to the Bureau.
3. (1) Dr. Bagshawe reported that Colonel C. Birt, A.M.S. (retired), had resigned the post of Sectional Editor (malaria), and that Colonel Clayton Lane, IM.S. (retired), had been doing the work. The Committee approved the appoint- ment of Colonel Clayton Lane.
(ii) The Committee received, and accepted, the resignation of Dr. Abraham, as a Sectional Editor, and requested Dr. Bagshawe to convey to him their thanks for his services and their appreciation of his work as a Sectional Editor.
(iii) Dr. Bagshawe was authorized to ascertain whether Colonel Lyle Cummins, A.M.S., would take over the work done by Dr. Abraham, and also the subject of tuberculosis in native races in the Tropics.
4. The Committee then considered whether the Lists of References, published twice annually supplementary to the Tropical Diseases Bulletin, should be discon- tinued. Dr. Bagshawe reported that he had written to various members of the Committee and Sectional Editorial staff for their opinions, and that many were in favour of discontinuance. He stated that the cost of producing these Lists of References was about £100 per annum, and that they were mostly subscribed for by institutions.
Sir Patrick Manson was in favour of discontinuing the Lists owing to the cost of production and the few subscribers.
Colonel Balfour suggested, as a compromise, that only those references which did not appear in the summaries should be published, but said that, speaking from the point of view of a scientific institution, he would be sorry to see the Lists discontinued.
In reference to a proposal to issue shorter summaries, Sir Stewart Stockman said that he thought that there was a large clientèle who depended on these for information, and who could not consult the original papers. Sir John McFadyean said that even though they might make better use of the money in other ways, it would be a great pity to discontinue the Lists since the series was complete from
1913.
Sir Herbert Read said that he wished the Bureau to cater for all tastes, and The Committee suggested that the Lists should be continued for the present. agreed, and asked Dr. Bagshawe to put a postcard in the next issue of the Bulletin to elicit the opinions of subscribers.
5. Dr. Bagshawe suggested that it was advisable to render the separate purchase of the Sanitation numbers more practicable. He stated that at present the Sanitation numbers formed part of the ordinary issue of the Bulletin. Thus sani- tary engineers who might wish to purchase only the Sanitary numbers were deterred by the difficulty of binding and the fact that the numbers of the pages did not follow in sequence. Dr. Bagshawe proposed that in future Sanitation numbers should be called Sanitation Supplements of the Tropical Diseases Bulletin, and that there should be three supplements a year. These supplements would be numbered consecutively and would form an annual volume of about 150 pages. Single supple- ments would be obtainable, or the series for the year, at an annual subscription. The Committee agreed.
6. The Committee approved certain office overlaps, small increases to salary, and railway expenses :-
(1) £4 8s. 4d.: overlap of salaries due to change of typists.
(22) £2 98. 6d. : return railway fare to Liverpool incurred by Dr. Bagshawe in Sir Herbert Read connexion with his receipt of the Mary Kingsley Medal.
remarked that this was a compliment not only to Dr. Bagshawe, but also to the
Bureau.

(iii) Office boy: salary increased to 218. a week from 1st October, 1920. (iv) Secretarial staff: Dr. Bagshawe stated that if the Bureau was to get a staff efficient for the somewhat specialized work it had to do, it must pay more salary. He recommended that the senior lady typist should be called the Senior Assistant Secretary and receive a salary of £200 a year. He also recommended that the second typist, who is a B.A. of London University, should be called the Second Assistant Secretary and receive a salary of £175 a year. The Committee agreed to these alterations, all to take effect from 1st October, 1920.
7. (1) Copies of correspondence with the Seamen's Hospital Society, regard- ing the library of the Bureau, were received (copies annexed).
The Committee then proceeded to discuss the proposal of the Seamen's Hospital Society that a Library Committee should be formed consisting of an equal number of members of the Bureau, of the Board of Management of the Sea- men's Hospital Society, and of the Tropical School Committee (copy annexed). The Committee agreed to the proposal, and Dr. Balfour and Dr. Bagshawe were nominated to represent the Bureau on the Library Committee.
