Number and Percentage of each Age Group found infected with Hookworm.

Three hundred and seventy-four treatments were given during the month. Three hundred and twenty-four microscopical examinations were made after patients had received treatment. Of these fifty-nine were found to be free from hookworm. So we have to report fifty-nine cures.
During the month His Excellency the Acting Governor, through the Country Board of Health, appointed a Sanitary Inspector to work in the ankylostomiasis campaign.
It is well understood that curative work without the preventive work would avail very little. The correct installation of properly constructed latrines is a matter of first importance in the final eradication of hookworm disease.
The duties of the inspector are to see that properly constructed latrines are correctly installed.
To encourage the construction of latrines, His Excellency the Acting Governor has caused to be made a number of seats and squatting platforms. These are to be installed in each village as a working example of what is meant by a "properly constructed latrine."
The Sanitary Inspector explains the construction of the seat or platform, which, of course, has a fly-proof lid. He then chooses the location and supervises the digging of the pit and the installing of the seat or platform.
Latrines being such an innovation, it was thought that to require housing would discourage their construction altogether. The latrines at present recom- mended are so constructed that they do not require housing. A thatch of coco-nut leaves or a screen of some sort is recommended and will be insisted upon by the local police or the country constables.
At such times as the nurses' duties did not require them to be in the Belvidere District they were engaged in taking census and collecting specimens in Sweets Village. This village will be included in the next area, which will be known as the "All Saints' District."
To avoid confusion in making reports these figures have been kept separate from the records of the Belvidere District. They will be put in the usual form when they are reported from the next area.
