NOTIFICATION COMMUNICATED TO THE PRESS BUREAU ON 1ST JUNE, 1916.
Liquidation of Ludwig Deuss & Company, Nyasaland.
THE following notice is issued in continuation of that issued on the 31st May:*
The final date for the presentation of claims is extended to 31st August, 1916. Subject to satisfactory proof being furnished claims will be admitted subject to the following conditions
Claims of British and Allied creditors against branches of the firm in Allied territory and claims of Allied creditors against the head office of the firm in Germany will only be admitted on proof that the claimants have exhausted their remedies in Allied territory.
Claims of neutral creditors against branches in Allied territory or the head office in enemy territory will only be admitted on proof that they have exhausted their remedies in Allied or enemy territory.
Claims of British, Allied, and neutral creditors against the firm's branches in Nyasaland and claims of British creditors against the head office in Germany will be admitted unconditionally.

Downing Street, 14th September, 1916. I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Bonar Law to refer to Treasury letter of the 30th June, 1915,† relative to the disposal of assets of businesses which have been dealt with under the Trading with the Enemy Acts, and to request you to inform the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury that he has received an inquiry from the Governor of the East Africa Protectorate as to what methods have been adopted for dealing with the revenue accruing from investments or deposits of the surplus assets of such businesses. Mr. Bonar Law would be glad to be informed whether any directions on this subject have been issued by their lord- ships under section 1 (4) of the Trading with the Enemy Amendment Act, 1914, and to receive any observations which their lordships may desire to make upon the subject.

I HAVE laid before the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Read's letter of the 14th instant stating that an inquiry has been received from the Governor of the East Africa Protectorate in regard to the methods which have deposits of the surplus assets of businesses dealt with under the Trading with the Enemy Acts.

In reply, I am to request you to inform Mr. Secretary Bonar Law that Be directions have been issued by their lordships on this subject since the date of their letter of the 30th June, 1915.*
Sums received by the Custodian by way of interest, etc., upon sums invested by him, are, my lords understand, held by hini subject to deduction of a fee of one per cent. for expenses, and invested in the same way as the original capital sums.

LIST OF ENEMY FIRMS IN LIQUIDATION.
As notified in the Press on 17th February, the trading establishments of all German and Austrian firms in Nigeria, the Gold Coast, and Sierra Leone have been closed by order of the Government, and officers have been appointed to control their liquidation.
The date up to which claims against these firms will be received has been extended to the 30th of April inclusive.
The firms which have been so closed are as follows:-

Jackel & Company; Ring & Company; Oscar Kaiser & Company; Holtmann & Company; Paul Goeriche & Company; W. Mertens & Company; Paul Meyer; Behrens & Wehmer; Bey & Zimmer & Company; Pagenstecher & Company; Deutsche Kamerun Gesellschaft; The German West African Trading Company; Morin & Company.
Gold Coast.-J. W. Jackel; Sachse & Company: The German West African Trading Company; Luther & Seyfert; Schenk & Barker; Augner & Mau; Thomas Morgan & Son; Alfred Kulenkampff; F. Oloff & Company; Boedecker & Meyer, C. Goedelt; Bremen Factorie; Henry Dietrich & Company; F. W. Rust & Company; Woltz & Company; Seccondee Hotel, or Fred Jansen; West African Mahogany Syndicate; German Factory, or Chevalier & Company, Bosselman & Company, or John Westphal; Claus Struve & Company.
(Two firms, viz., Sick & Company and Herman Engster & Company, have claimed that they are not of enemy nationality; but, so far as is known at the Colonial Office at present, no decision has yet been taken with regard to their claims.)

Parsons or firms with claims against any of the firms mentioned above should forward their claims, supported by full particulars with proof thereof, and attested by affidavit, to the liquidating officers, so as to reach them on or before 30th April
