Chile."--The Committee agreed that the insurance fund should bear the expenses of this ship, less the credits received for the sale of any wreckage and stores, and also that the value of the ship should be provisionally taken at the value fixed for the insurance fund. The final value of the ship under the head of "detained" could not be fixed for the present, as His Majesty's Government had not yet settled what policy they proposed to adopt in cases of detained enemy ships. The balance of 50 per cent. of the sum spent in repairing the damage to the rudder and not recovered from the underwriters should be debited to "detained," with a view to a deduction being made from the amount payable to the original German owner in the event of His Majesty's Government deciding to pay him the value of the ship.

20. 5.5. Kankakee." The Committee agreed that £13 9s. 10d. for water sup- plied at Gibraltar might be paid, as it was clear that the bill had been incurred during the voyage on the Committee's account.

21. s.v.“ Kelp."-The Committee agreed to repay to the Shipwrecked Fisher- men and Mariners' Royal Benevolent Society the sum of £69 2s. 10d. spent by them in relieving the crew of this ship. 1. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.

2. s.s. “Diyatalawa."-The Secretary read a letter from the Admiralty, dated the 19th of December, 1915, with regard to the employment of this ship after that date. The Committee agreed that Mr. Holt should make arrangements for the return voyage of the ship from the Persian Gulf, and, if no cargo was forthcoming from there, the ship should be sent to load at Karachi and Bombay.

3. s.s. “Edna.”—Mr. Evans reported that no final arrangements had been made with regard to the payment of the freight, but that he hoped that they would be completed on the following day, when the necessary instructions could be sent to the Governor of Barbados.

4. 8.8. "Grahamland."-The Chairman reported that he had seen Sir R. McBride, and that the latter had informed him that he had received a letter from the British Columbia Government repudiating any liability for demurrage. Mr. Holt undertook to send a memorandum on the subject to the Chairman.

8. 8.8. "Lome." The Secretary was to write to the Admiralty with regard to the employment of this ship after the discharge of her cargo.

Messrs. Elder Dempster should be informed that they should take no action with regard to the payment of dock dues until the claim which had been made by the Port of London Authority on the master of the ship had been considered by the Admiralty.

7. S.S. "Diana."-Mr. Holt reported that this ship had not yet arrived at Durban, where she should have been before the end of April. The Committee recommended that a telegram should be sent to the Governor-General of Nigeria informing him that the ship was overdue. No further action was necessary for the present.

8. S.D. "Chile."-The Committee discussed Messrs.. Workman, Clark and Company's application for the return of a hawser left on board by the tug which attempted to tow her. It was decided that Messrs. 9. Steamships "Rajaburi

Quarta."-The Secretary reported the reply received from the Shipping Control Committee, and the action taken by him, with the Chairman's approval, in writing to ask whether the Director of Transports would require these ships if they were brought to the United Kingdom.

10. s.s." Kuka.”—Mr. Evans undertook to ascertain whether the Admiralty desired the Committee to take any action with regard to this ship.

11.

s.s. "Kalymnos."- The Secretary stated that the Governor of Malta had reported that 112 barrels of cod liver oil ex the 8.s. "Kalymnos," and still awaiting adjudication, were being shipped to the United Kingdom; and had asked that the oil might be insured after arrival until the date of sale. The Committee agreed that Messrs. Glanvill, Enthoven and Company might be asked to extend the Malta insurance to the cargo on its arrival in this country. The Ministry of Munitions should be informed of the proposed sale.

12. Steamships “Gutenfels,” “Barenfels,” Werdenfels," and "Lauterfels." -The Secretary reported that the underwriters had accepted Messrs. Grahams' proposal to pay a lump sum of £500 in respect of premium on the cargoes in these ships prior to their disposal.

13. Messrs. Waltons and Company. The Secretary reported that Sir Henry Johnson had stated that he would be willing, in the circumstances, to act as the agent of the Treasury Solicitor in cases involving litigation.

14. s.s. “Emir."-The Committee considered an application from Richard Dickeson and Company, Limited, for information as to the steps which they should take to recover forty empty cases of cylinders consigned on the s.s. "Emir" or their value. This cargo had been condemned as prize and sold by Messrs. Churchill and Sim. The Committee decided that the firm should be told that, as they had not troubled to enter an appearance, the only steps which they could take would be to apply, if so advised, to the Court for a reversal of the order of condemnation made against the cargo.

The Secretary read two letters from the Port of London Authority with regard to the refund of port dues and one-third of other charges made on condemned cargo ex this ship. It was agreed that the question of the refund of the one-third of the other charges must be left over for the present. Messrs. Churchill and Sim should, however, be asked to see that the refund of the port dues was obtained.
