Reference :---
The number of subscribers was one hundred and sixty-nine, and the separate parts sold amounted to two hundred and eighty-five.
for Volume VII. and £64 for Volume VI.
Some time ago Messrs. Dulau & Company advised us that they could not store all the surplus copies of future parts of the Bulletin; arrangements were therefore made for the delivery of three hundred copies of each issue direct to our Queen's Gate Office. Subsequently they informed us that, owing to their moving to more expensive premises, they could no longer continue to store the accumulated back parts, which now amount to about six tons in weight. As Dr. Neave was quite satisfied that his staff at Queen's Gate could now easily undertake the distribution of the Bulletin in conjunction with that of the Review, this seemed a good oppor- tunity for effecting the change, and we therefore arranged with Dulau's to take over the whole business after the completion of Volume IX. The transfer of the surplus stock at Queen's Gate has already been effected, at a cost of £4 10s. It is estimated that by taking over the distribution we shall save about £25 a year.
Staff. It is with great regret that I have to record the death of a second member of our staff, Private E. A. Bateman, who died of wounds in hospital at He was a most Boulogne, on the 29th June last, being only 18 years of age. obliging, hard-working, and trustworthy boy.
Of the remaining members of the staff who are on active service, Captain J.. Waterston is still in Macedonia, being now engaged on Phlebotomus work; Corporal L. B. Wyatt, Royal Garrison Artillery, was wounded in France, after returning from Italy, and is now on light work in this country; Gunner C. J. Golledge, Royal Garrison Artillery, is at present in Macedonia.
The special Man-Power Committee which investigated our staff in July merely confirmed the exemptions that had already been granted.
Collections of Insects.-Considering the circumstances, the number of specimens sent in for identification during the past half-year has been quite satisfactory, and, for the purpose of comparison, in the following details the figures for the corresponding six months of last year are added in brackets. In all, 63 (59) con- signments of insects were received from 27 (31) different correspondents, who were distributed thus:-Europe 6 (9), Asia 5 (3), Africa 11 (12), and Tropical America 5 (7). The total number of specimens received was about 6,700 (3,800), of which 1,100 were blood-suckers. We have no reason to suppose that any packages of insects, either in-coming or out-going, were lost at sea, though a considerable number of copies of the Review and the Index to Series A went down in the "Galway Castle."
The number of lists of names sent out to correspondents was 26, and these com- prised over 500 specific identifications.
