No. 80.
MINUTES OF THE TWENTY-FIRST MEETING OF THE FINANCE SUB- COMMITTEE OF THE IMPERIAL BUREAU OF ENTOMOLOGY, HELD
AT THE COLONial Office on 31ST OCTOBEer, 1917.
Present:
DR. HARMER (Chairman).
SIR D. PRAIN.
MR. READ.
DR. MARSHALL.
MR. FIDDIAN (Acting Secretary).
THE minutes of the Twentieth Meeting were approved.
The Director asked for the approval of the Sub-Committee for increases of pay to certain employees of the Bureau, viz. :—
Mr. Neave, in whose case it was proposed to increase his salary of £450 to £500 per annum.
Mr. Nell, who now drew £180 a year salary and 58. a week war bonus. It was proposed to increase the £180 to £200 a year.
Mr. Hermer, who now drew £2 108. a week, which it was proposed to increase to £3. The Director explained that this increase was not as large as it looked, as the cost of Mr. Hermer's season ticket between Southend and London had been defrayed by the Bureau, and as he had now come to live in London a saving of upwards of £20 a year had been effected.
Dr. Marshall laid before the Committee an estimate of the financial position of the Bureau, from which it appeared probable that at the end of the financial year they would have a balance of nearly £2,500 in hand.
The Sub-Committee approved the proposed increases.
Dr. Marshall explained to the Sub-Committee that he had discussed with Sir Ronald Ross the question of the co-operation of the Bureau in the Anopheles survey of the country, and suggested that a grant might be made from the fund
