your I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to acknowledge the receipt of letter of the 20th June,* and to express to you and to Dr. Shipley his thanks for your services in selecting the lanterns for ankylostomiasis work.

2. I am to request that you will be good enough to order seven of these lanterns and arrange for the accounts to be forwarded to the Crown Agents for the Colonies, who will be instructed to pay them and ship the lanterns to the Colonies where they are required.

IN confirmation of my telegram of the 25th June, I have the honour to inform you that Dr. E. S. Marshall, Medical Officer in charge, and Messrs. C. H. Harpley and J. Webster, microscopists, will sail for Antigua on the 1st July, to conduct the investigation as to the prevalence of ankylostomiasis for which pro-. vision has been made by the International Health Commission.

2. I enclose, for your information, copies of the letters of appointment§ addressed to Messrs. Harpley and Webster.

3. Arrangements have been made for them to undergo short courses of instruc- The cost will be charged to tion at the London School of Tropical Medicine. Antigua funds, and may be met from the provision for "contingencies" in the ankylostomiasis estimate, or otherwise, at your discretion..

4. In view of the importance of facilitating the investigation, the cost of which will be mainly borne by the International Health Commission, I trust that you will use every endeavour to provide accommodation for the party in all places

they may

visit.

Downing Street, 26th June, 1914. I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to enclose for your information a copy of a letter,* relative to the purchase of a lantern with acetylene generator, for use in connexion with the campaign against ankylostomiasis in the West Indies.

2. Dr. Bagshawe has been asked to order seven of these lanterns, and to send the accounts to you for payment.

St. Lucia

St. Vincent...

I am to request that you will also arrange for the shipment of the lanterns to the Colonies indicated.

3. The lanterns for Trinidad should be shipped not later than the mail of

15th July.

4. I am to take this opportunity of inviting reference to the letter from this Department of the 9th May,f and to inform you that it is essential that the micro- scopes required for Antigua should be shipped by the mail of 1st July. No lantern is required for Antigua.
