Forwards twenty-one

pictures and photographs with descriptive notes; and observes that the large photo- graphe by J. Anjo are not available for use as book illustrations or for lantern slides unless copyright fees amounting to 458: be paid.

Consents to the reproduction of the sketches, as requested in No. 2, but expresses the opinion that, while making a convenience of the Com- mittee, the Council might in their turn reasonably have given some

the encouragement to work by buying and using the sets of slides and the text books, or, at any rate, a fair proportion of them.

Reports that considerable difficulty has been experienced in procuring suit. able prints for the Committee, but that the local representative of Mesare. Lipton, Limited, will present some on his arrival in England, and that others may perhaps be obtained from the Church Missionary Society.

Forwards a copy of a letter from the Indian Government, asking, on be- half of several of the Native States, for information regarding the book and lantern slides on Canada and the Newfoundland published by Committee; and

to proposes authorize political officers in India to communicate direct with the Com- mittee.

Forwards, in reply to No. 18, a copy of a letter from Mr. Gomes stating that he has no objection to the publica- tion of his photographs as lantern slides or book illustrations, provided that his name and "Zanzibar 18 printed under each one so used.

Forwards, in reply to No. 17, copies of a memorandum in which the par- ticulars required will be found; and concurs in the proposal to authorize political officers in India to commu- nicate direct with the Committee.
