visit to the East Africa Protectorate, and return to England to take up his duties as Assistant Director early next year, provided that he can do so without interfering seriously with his present investigations in Nyasaland. He will be permitted to take the leave due to him at his present rate of salary, and he will begin to draw salary at the rate of £450 as from the date on which he assumes his duties in the Bureau.
4. I have to request that you will ascertain whether Mr. Neave is willing to accept this offer, and if so, when he would propose to leave Nyasaland for this country.
5. I should be glad if you would communicate Mr. Neave's reply to me by telegram.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, No. 260, of 22nd August last,* on the subject of information as to the distribution of Stegomyia fasciata in Eastern Colonial and foreign ports, and to inform you that arrange- ments are being made for supplying the Imperial Bureau of Entomology with information as to the distribution of mosquitoes in this Colony, the Malay States, Brunei, British North Borneo, and Sarawak, together with collections of specimens.

I HAVE the honour to request that you will offer to Mr. S. A. Neave, Travelling Entomologist, who is now working in Nyasaland, the post of Assistant Director of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology in London, with salary at the rate of £450 per
annum.
2. Mr. Neave will be required to assist Mr. G. A. K. Marshall, the Director of the Bureau, generally in the work which the Bureau is carrying on, and in the absence of the Director he will take charge.
3. It is understood that Mr. Neave will not have completed the particular work on which he is now engaged, in Nyasaland for some little while, but the Managing Committee of the Bureau are of the opinion that he should abandon his proposed
