7 ft. 3 in.; it " appeared to be quite separated from the rest of the uterus; attached

to it (but with no perceptible duct) is a small ovary (in connexion with which no corpora lutea were noted). The ovaries "Both ovaries are diffuse and not of one piece each." were kept. "This female had evidently reared her calf before she became again pregnant, which suggests pregnancy every alternate year." The notes on the placenta and the fœtus (No. 16), are given below in Appendix I., p. 178.

No. 56 (75 ft., 18th December): "Milk, nil; teats retracted; mammary glands of moderate size." Contained a female fœtus 5 ft. 5 in. long, 114 (75 ft., 27th December) -“ Milk, nil; mammæ slightly protruding;

genitals not examined" (cf. No. 119).

262 (75 ft., 12th January) :—“ Milk, nil; mammæ slightly protruding; at

least no big fœtus present."

33 (75.5 ft., 6th December):-"No milk; teats dried up; very little mam- mary gland." In a separate note a sketch of the genital organs is The dis- embedded in a thick fat membrane." given. They were tance between the mouth of the vagina and the most remote part of the fundus was 12 ft.; the proximal part of the corpus uteri between the mouths of the cornua was divided by a median longitudinal septum 5 ft. in length; the width measured across both cornua was 10 ft. One cornu, from which a female fœtus 5 ft. 7 in. was expelled on rupture, was with the Fallopian tube about 21 ft. long; its interior richly vascular and raised in longitudinal ridges (villi?)." The other foetusless cornu was about 18 ft. long with the Fallopian tube; its interior was less vascular and smoother than was that of the cornu which held the fœtus. Each ovary measured 1 ft. 2 in. by 5 in.; the ovary connected with the pregnant cornu had a large corpus luteum measuring 6 in. by 7 in. For notes on the placenta and the foetus see Appendix I., p. 179.

Owing to the method of cutting up I only found one ovary, which contained a corpus luteum of about half the size of those found with 5 ft. foetuses. The foetus was not found.
