adjusted in such a manner as to afford adequate access to the space beneath such seat for the purpose of cleansing such space or of removing therefrom or placing and fitting therein the appropriate pan or receptacle, or shall otherwise provide adequate means of access to such space for the purposes aforesaid.

6. In every earth-closet erected for a school, the whole area of the ground immediately beneath the seat shall be raised not less than three inches above the level of the floor of the privy, and the whole of this area and the whole extent of each side of the space between the ground and the seat shall be constructed of such material and in such manner as to prevent any absorption by any part thereof of any excretions deposited in such closet.

Expenses of Construction and Maintenance.

7. With respect to Government Schools and to the expenses incurred in relation to constructing and maintaining privies connected therewith, the claims for all such expenses, including the wages of the persons employed to look after and scavenge such privies, shall be made up and certified by the Head Teacher fort- nightly, and forwarded by him to the Chairman of the District Board or Local Sanitary Authority, not later than the Tuesday following the termination of the fortnight to which they relate. The Head Teacher should, in passing on a claim for the scavenger's wages, state in his certificate whether the work had been done efficiently. When found satisfactory, the said Chairman shall initial each claim and forward the same to the Inspector of Schools for his approval and signature.

8. With respect to Grant-in-Aid Schools, the Manager may apply at the end of each quarter for the reimbursement by the Government of one-half of all expenses in that connection as is provided by Subsection (3) of Section 6 of the above-named Ordinance. Such application or claim shall be in the form set forth in the Schedule hereto, and be sent with the vouchers of expenditure to the Chairman of the District Board or Local Sanitary Authority who upon being satisfied as to the correctness of the claim shall return the vouchers to the Manager and, after signing the declara- tion thereon to that effect, forward the claim to the Inspector of Schools for his approval and signature.

1. Notices under Section 3 (2) of the Ankylostomiasis Ordinance, 1910, requiring the owner or occupier of an estate to provide and maintain sufficient and suitable privy accommodation shall be in the form A in the Schedule hereto.

2. Notices under the same section requiring the owner or occupier of an estate

to put and maintain any existing privy accommodation in a clean and efficient condition shall be in the form B in the Schedule bereto.
