SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Government House, Adelaide, 8th May, 1913. WITH reference to your despatches, No. 96, of 3rd October, 1912, and No. 23, of the 20th February, 1913,* and in continuation of my telegram of to-day, I have the honour to report that the South Australian Government

(1) Agree to guarantee for a period of three years South Australia's proportion of the £300 to be contributed annually by the six Australian States; as stated in your despatch of 20th February last, the payment for the first year has already been paid by South Australia, and it will be convenient for our contribution to be paid through the New South Wales Government.

(2) Have appointed Mr. A. M. Lea. F.E.S., Entomologist at the South Australian Museum and Consulting Entomologist to the Department of Agriculture, an ex-officio and corresponding Member of the Entomological Research Committee. (3) Do not consider it advisable at present to appoint any member of the Entomological Research Committee as a direct representative of this State.

(4) Concur that entomological reports, &c., should be forwarded direct to the Director of the Bureau, and have given instructions accordingly.

SIR,

State Government House, Sydney, 17th May, 1913. WITH reference to your despatch, No. 58, of the 28th March last,* relative to the representation of the interests of the Australian States on the Managing Com- mittee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology, I have the honour to inform you that my Ministers concur with the proposal that the Agents-General of the respective States should, in rotation, attend the meetings of the Committee, and they are suggesting to the Governments of the other Australian States that the Agent-General for New South Wales should be recognised as the medium of communication with the Committee, and the officer responsible for securing such representation at the meetings to be held from time to time.

In reply to your despatch, No. 40, of the 28th of March last, § relative to the representation of the interests of Australia on the Managing Committee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology, I have the honour to report that my Ministers approve Sir Thomas Robinson's suggestion that one of the Agents-General for the Australian States should be invited to attend the meetings of the Committee, it being a matter for mutual settlement among the Agents-General which of them should attend any particular meeting.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, No. 36, of the 28th March last,* and, in reply, to inform you that my Government concurs in the proposal of the Agent-General for Queensland that the representation of the interests of Australia on the Managing Committee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology be made by an arrangement whereby one of the Agents-General for the Australian States should be invited to attend meetings of the Committee.
