Mr. A. R. Ritchie, of Glasgow University, for one year; Mr. M. E. MacGregor, of Trinity College, Cambridge, for one year; Mr. A. Mason, of the South-Eastern Agricultural College, Wye, for one year; and Mr. J. W. Tothill, Assistant to Dr. Gordon Hewitt, for six months at Cornell. In addition to these the six months' scholarship offered to Trinidad is still open, no candidate having been selected by the local authorities. The cost of these scholarships is estimated to amount to €1,400.
In conclusion, I have to announce the receipt of a letter from the President of the Entomological Society of Ontario inviting this Bureau to send a representative to attend the Jubilee meeting of the Society at Guelph, from the 27th to 29th August.

MINUTES OF THE FOURTH MEETING OF THE "SELECTION SUB- COMMITTEE" OF THE IMPERIAL BUREAU OF ENTOMOLOGY.
The fourth meeting of the "Selection Sub-Committee" was held at the Colonial Office at 11.40 a.m. on Thursday, 1st May, 1913.
PRESENT:
Dr. SHIPLEY. Professor POULTON. Mr. MARSHALL.
Mr. PARKINSON.
1. The recommendations provisionally made by the Sub-Committee at the third meeting were further considered. It was decided to select Mr. M. E. MacGregor and Mr. A. R. Ritchie for Carnegie scholarships on the usual terms, but to defer consideration of Mr. E. Speyer for twelve months, as it had been ascertained in the meantime that he would not be able at present to make use of a scholarship.
2. Mr. Marshall stated that he estimated that the Committee had at their disposal the sum of £1,450 for expenditure on Carnegie scholars during the current year. Allowing £350 for Mr. MacGregor, £350 for Mr. Ritchie, and £175 for one of the Trinidad Entomologists (if the Committee's offer to that Colony should be definitely accepted), there would still be available a sum of £575. He recommended that £175 should be allocated to Mr. Tothill, Assistant to Dr. Gordon Hewitt in Canada, who wished to spend six months working at Cornell University. The Sub- Committee concurred in this proposal.
3. Other candidates brought to the notice of the Sub-Committee were Mr. A. Mason (South-Eastern Agricultural College, Wye) and Mr. D. A. Gotch (Cambridge University). It was decided to grant Mr. Mason a scholarship for one year to enable him to carry out field work at suitable stations in the United States.

I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 26th of April,* respecting the proposal that a representative of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology should accompany the British Delegates to the General Assembly of the International Agricultural Institute at Rome on the 6th day of May, and to state, for the information of Secretary Sir Edward Grey, that, in view of the letter from the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries dated the 25th of April, a copy of which was enclosed in your letter under acknowledgment, it has been decided that no representative of the Bureau shall accompany the British Delegates to Rome on this occasion.
2.
I am to express regret for the delay in replying to your letter, but it was not possible to proceed further with the matter until the Managing Committee of the Bureau, which met this morning, had had an opportunity of considering it.
