2. Referring to paragraph 2 of your despatch, in which you enquire whether I advise protective measures being taken in the case of purely insectivorous birds. Before giving a decided opinion I should like to hear Dr. Hopkinson's views on the point. That officer is now on his way to England on leave. Perhaps you will see fit to consult him on a subject of which he has a very wide knowledge. If it is eventually decided to adopt protective measures for the preservation of the golden cuckoo and other birds, Dr. Hopkinson might be asked to name the birds he considers should be included in that category.

(b) Summary of game killed under licence for the period from 1st January

to 31st December, 1912.

2. One contravention of the Game Regulations was reported during the year, when a female elephant was shot without a licence. The other two female elephants were shot under a special licence.
