States that it will not be convenient for Newfoundland to send a representa- tive to the Conference suggested by the Committee.

States that, with a view to adding an

Assistant Entomologist to the Depart ment, Mr. Harcourt is prepared to ack the Treasury to increase the grant to the Department by £200 per annum, the other £200 required being found from savings; asks whether he sees his way clear to doing this.

(Rec. June 6) States that on reconsideration Ministers have decided to participate in the scheme if it can be inaugurated on a satisfactory basis and will contribute up to £100 per annum; and adds that arrangements are being made for New Zealand to be represented at the proposed Conference.

Informs him that the Governments of the other self-governing Dominions have expressed willingness to Co- operate in the scheme and to con- tribute as suggested ; understands that the Committee will be able to meet the views of his Government to the extent indicated, and trusts that Ministers will see their way to co- operate in the scheme, the success of which will otherwise be compromised.

Forwards a letter from the Secretary of State for External Affairs reporting that Dr. C. Gordon Hewitt has been authorised to represent Canada at the International Congress of Entomology at Oxford, and afterwards at the proposed Conference.

States, in reply to No. 27, that Mr. Marshall will communicate with Mr. Bodkin as to his tour in the Uniteil States, and that it would be convenient if Mr. Bodkin's allowances were paid by the Colonial Government, a demand for a refund being submitted through the Crown Agents,

are unable to recommend that a representative be sent to the second International Congress of Entomology.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 37 and expresses pleasure at decision com- municated therein.
