(c) Sir Ronald Ross's suggestion that groups of subjects should be brought out as separate fascicles as well as under the same cover was negatived, as was his proposal that there should be "honorary assistants attention to literature and, possibly, write reviews.

to call (d) The question of the free distribution of the Bulletin was considered, and it was agreed in principle that it should be given gratis to the Medical Officers in the contributing Colonies and in India. Sir John Rose- Bradford thought that consideration should be extended to officers of the Royal Army Medical Corps, but it was agreed that it would be best in the first instance to bring to the notice of the War Office and the Admiralty the fact that the Bulletin would be issued, and to enquire whether the War Office and Admiralty would be willing to subscribe for a number of copies on reduced terms. the case of medical missionaries should stand over for further con- It was agreed that sideration in the light of experience. should be £1 1s. a year, and the price of separate numbers should be It was agreed that the price Is. (e) It was agreed that Dr. Bagshawe should arrange for the distribution of the journal and the receipt of subscriptions and so forth by an agent, being guided as far as applicable by the arrangements made for the bulletins of the Entomological Research Committee.

(f) Dr. Bagshawe pointed out that with the extension of the activities of the Bureau it might be necessary to obtain from time to time translations. It was agreed that in these cases he should be authorised to ask Sir Ronald Ross, who had a polyglot clerk, to obtain translations, the Bureau paying the fee.

(g) Dr. Bagshawe raised the question of the position of Mr. Austin, who was at present put down as Honorary Consulting Entomologist, but who could hardly remain in that position in view of the extension of the activities of the Bureau and of the fact that his expert knowledge of entomology was confined to the Department of Biting Flies. It was agreed that Dr. Bagshawe should now be able to arrange the matter suitably with Mr. Austin.

(h) It was agreed that the details in connection with the "Veterinary Bulletin" should be decided by a Sub-Committee consisting of Sir John McFadyean. Mr. Stockman, Mr. Sheather, and Dr. Bagshawe. (i) It was agreed that Dr. Bagshawe should be authorised to expend a sum not exceeding £50 during the period up to the 1st of October in making good deficiencies in the library.

(j) On the motion of Sir West Ridgeway it was unanimously agreed that a hearty vote of thanks should be passed to the Roval Society for their generosity in affording the Bureau quarters. Dr. Bagshawe explained that the transfer to the three rooms which had been obtained at the Imperial Institute would take place on the 17th of June.

MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE VETERINARY SUB-COMMITTEE OF THE TROPICAL DISEASES BUREAU, MAY 28, 1912.

A meeting of the Veterinary Sub-Committee of the Tropical Diseases Bureau was held at the Sleeping Sickness Bureau on Tuesday, May 28th, 1912, at 4.30.

PRESENT:

Sir J. MCFADYEAN;

Mr. STOCKMAN;

Dr. BAGSHAWE; and Mr. SHEATHER.

It was agreed that the title of the Veterinary Journal should be the "Tropi- cal Veterinary Diseases Bulletin "; that the format should be that of the present 'Sleeping Sickness Bulletin," with a different coloured wrapper to distinguish it

readily from the " Tropical Diseases Bulletin," unless the cost should be appreciably raised; that four numbers should be issued yearly at a subscription price of 10s. post free, single numbers to be 3s.; that an agent should be appointed to receive sub- scriptions and sell the journal on terms to be settled; that advertisements should be taken; that there should be a list of references-to-date in each number; that original articles should not be taken. Sir J. McFadyean said that he would obtain all the veterinary journals required at the Veterinary College; it would therefore not be necessary for the Bureau to subscribe for any. It was agreed that several would be obtained as exchanges. The first number of the journal would appear in October. There was some discussion as to what were to be regarded as tropical veterinary diseases. The Director said that in the " Tropical Diseases Bulletin "those diseases would be treated which were prevalent in tropical and sub-tropical regions and rare or absent in England; world-wide discases, such as syphilis and typhoid fever, which are adequately dealt with in existing British journals, would not, as a rule, be included.

**

It was agreed that, generally speaking, the same plan would be followed for the Veterinary Bulletin.'
