"Prædial larceny is decreasing. It is believed that the decrease is to be attri- buted to the activity and vigilance of the men appointed as sub-constables, who seem always to be on the watch for thieves. Some members say they are suffering as much as ever from prædial larceny, but the special constable for their district has gone to Colon, and they have asked for another to be appointed."

Hanover.

The opinion of the Chairman of the districts and secretaries of sub-branches was asked, and with one exception the replies were all in the affirmative on every point.

"Two replies stated that while prædial larceny had decreased, it was partly due to better times, when theft was not taken so much notice of by the cultivators.

One district expressed the opinion that some effort might be made to bring the authorised persons into some kind of organisation, either under their own district headmen or under their district constables, to whom they may act as a kind of vigilance committee, and, if necessary, give assistance as special constables."

Stewart Town (Trelawny),

The appointment of authorised persons has done some good in checking prædial larceny in this district: that while many arrests have not been made by the one authorised person of this Branch, yet the appointment has been a deterrent to We now feel that more authorised persons for this district are

some extent. needed."

Some of the branches who have not yet given their opinions have only appointed their authorised persons lately, and are not in a position to speak on the subject yet.
