Forwards copies of a report by the Acting Senior Medical Officer on taetae fy distribution and of a report and map by the Protectorate Medical Officer indicating the localities in which the tsetse fly is to be found.
Discusses Dr. Bagshawe's views in No. 7 as to danger of spread of sleeping sickness in Southern Rhodesia through movements of natives; states that the Company have decided to adopt the proposals to recruit labour from North-Eastern Rhodesia until more substantial evidence is forthcoming that sleeping sickness can be com- municated by biting insects other than G. palprilis.
Encloses copy of a memorandum by the Principal Medical Officer upon the treatment and investigation of sleep- ing sickness in Uganda; agrees with Dr. Hodges's views.
Transmits, with reference to No. 15, copy of th memorandum by the Acting Principal Medical Officer con- taining his observations on the recom- mendations of the Sleeping Sickness Conference at Nairobi in April, 1909.

States that the Indian Government is precluded by financial considerations from recommending that a contri- bution should be made towards the upkeep of the proposed Tropical Diseases Bureau, and that Lord Morley concurs in this view.
Informs him that at a meeting of the Managing Committee of the Sleeping Sickness Burean held on 18th Feb- ruary, a resolution was passed ex- pressing the warm appreciation of the Committee of his services as Librarian of the Bureau.

Enquires whether Lord Crewe is yet in a position to state the result of the appeal to the Indian Government for an annual contribution of £1,000 to extend the Sleeping Sickness Bureau into a bureau for all tropical diseases.
States that in view of the correspondence enclosed Lord Crewe thinks it un- desirable to press the matter further at present, but that he will approach the Indian Government again at a later date.
Acknowledges the receipt of No. 40 and agrees that it is undesirable to press the matter further at present.
States that he has received instructions from the Transvaal Government to pay the sum of £500 towards the funds of the Sleeping Sickness Bureau in the name of the four colonies of the South African Union.
