Government House, Freetown, Sierra Leone, 20th December, 1909. WITH reference to your telegram of the 9th of December and my telegraphic reply thereto,* relative to the subscription of this Government to the Tropical Disease Research Fund, I have the honour to express my regret that owing to an oversight your circular despatch of the 11th of Marcht has not been replied to. In compliance with paragraph 9 of that circular despatch, this matter was brought before the Legislative Council on the 23rd of July last, when the Council passed a resolution continuing the vote of £100 as an annual contribution to the Tropical Disease Research Fund for a further period of five years. The necessary provision has been made in the Estimates for 1910.

2. I enclose copy of observations made by Dr. Forde, the Principal Medical Officer, on the report enclosed in your circular despatch under reply, and will forward you the observations of the Medical Officers as soon as they are received.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, No. 394, of

the 11th of December,§ reporting that, at the Annual Session of the Combined Court, /' the sum of £100 was voted as a contribution from British Guiana to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund.

The Crown Agents for the Colonies have, accordingly, been instructed to pay over this amount to the credit of the Fund in question.
