THE GOVERNOR to THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

(Received 17 May, 1909.)

[Answered by No. 45.]

I HAVE the honour, with reference to your Lordship's circular despatch of

Grenada, 27 April, 1909. the 11th of March last,* to inform you that the Executive Council of Grenada have expressed an opinion on the question of the Tropical Diseases Research Fund as follows:-

That Grenada was not adverse to the continuance of a subscription to the Fund, but that such a subscription should be forthcoming from the Wind- ward Islands, conjointly, to the extent of, say, £100; of which sum Grenada would be willing to contribute her fair share.”

2. Before, therefore, bringing up the matter in Legislative Council I shall be glad to know if you wish to invite the Islands of St. Lucia and St. Vincent to contribute as herein suggested.

3. Grenada will be, I think, quite willing to contribute the £50 if the other islands fail to contribute anything, but if the other islands contribute an aggregate sum of £100 as from the Windward Islands, the amounts should, I think, be allo- cated pro rata according to the revenue of each island, as in the case of the auditor's salary.

4. I refer your Lordship to Sir George Melville's despatch, No. 164 (Grenada), of the 28th of October, 1903.† St. Lucia and St. Vincent can now both afford to contribute.

I have, &c.,

RALPH WILLIAMS,

Governor.
