suggestion that the lantern slides should be made at the Committee's expense and then presented to Dr. Graham was adopted.
6. The question of engaging an assistant was raised by Mr. Marshall, who reminded the Sub-Committee that the principle of such assistance had been approved. The time had now come when he could no longer cope satisfactorily with the work, and he stated that he would be glad to engage a boy as assistant (aged 17) at 15s, a week.
The Sub-Committee approved of Mr. Marshall's taking this step, and recog- nised that the wages suggested might need revision in course of time.
7. Mr. Marshall wished to know the feeling of the Sub-Committee on :-
(i.) Payments made by him in connexion with such matters as block-making,
illustrations, &c.;
(ii.) Subscriptions and cash receipts.
As to (i.), no general decision was arrived at; but after Mr. Marshall had out- lined the estimated expense of producing the first number of the Bulletin (under £90), it was resolved that he should proceed, so far as that number was concerned, on the lines proposed, without further reference to the Sub-Committee in matters of detail.
As to (ii.), Mr. Marshall stated that he was desirous of having subscriptions pass through his hands, unless the labour proved excessive. It being mainly a matter of his own convenience, it was decided that for the present subscriptions and cash payments should be paid through him into the account with the Crown Agents for the Colonies.
