States, in reply to No. 68, that pending 134

the consideration of reports now being received legislative action will not be pressed, and suggests that the allot- ment of new immigrants to an estate should be made conditional on the Surgeon-General being satisfied that the sanitary arrangements do not in- volve risk of infection to the general labouring population.

Forwards copy of a despatch from the Administrator reporting on the pre- valence of ankylostomiasis, and the measures necessary for its abatement.

Encloses copies of the replies of medical officers of Grenada to the circular of 12th November, 1907, dealing with the subject of ankylostomiasis, and points out the difficulty of enforcing the observance of any sanitary regu lations.

Forwards copy of a report by the Principal Medical Officer giving in- formation as to the treatment and prevention of the disease.

decided that it is not desirable that ¦ the allotment of this year's immi- grants should be made conditional on the provision of satisfactory latrine accommodation, but that a circular should be addressed to the proprietors of the several estates on the subject.

Transmits report by the Surgeon- General as to the prevalence of the disease among the labouring classes, and as to the measures adopted for its treatment and prevention, and an amended draft of the Factories and Boilers Ordinance containing pro- visions requiring suitable sanitary conveniences to be provided in all factories.

Observations and suggestions on the treatment of the adult coolies in the ship "Ems" and in the Public Hospital.

States that it has been decided to approve the enclosed recommendation of the Acting Superintending Medical Officer for securing the purity of the water supply, and the issue, by the Superintending Medical Officer, of an additional instruction to District Medical Officers with the view of checking the spread of ankylosto miasis among indentured coolies.

Forwards extract from a report by the Surgeons-Superintendent of a recent meeting at which a resolution was adopted opposing any general treat- ment on Indian emigrant ships, and copy of a memorandum giving the chief reasons for the resolution.

Transmits copies of letters from the Superintending Medical Officer and the Protector of Immigrants covering reports from various medical officers, and states that the recommendations made are receiving consideration.

Forwards reporta from the various islands, and states that no further stejis will be taken antil Dr. Nicholls's promised pamphlet has been printed and circulated.
