Transmits copy of the agreement which it has been decided to adopt in the case of temporary appointments for the Survey Department of the East Africa Protectorate and enquires if he desires the temporary Uganda survey officials to be engaged in future on similar agreements.
States that Captain C. H. Ley has been selected to take charge of the proposed trigonometrical survey of Fiji and that Mr. T. Rimmer has been selected as his assistant; informs the Governor of the conditions of their employment, and gives directions as to the way in which their services may be employed.
Acknowledges the receipt of No. 117 and expresses concurrence in the high appreciation expressed of the work of the Survey Department. September 12 States that it is proposed to carry out a rapid survey of the Kingdom of Uganda, and requests that necessary officers and non-commis- sioned officers may be selected.
