Requests that the Cairns Chamber of Commerce may be informed of the receipt of No. 79.

Petition to the Secretary of State pray. ing that His Majesty's Government will reconsider their decision and continue to adhere to the Brussels Convention, the existence of which is considered vital to the existence of sugar refining and allied industries in this country.

Supports request of the West Indian Committee that the Convention should not be denounced.

Encloses resolution passed by the Bar- bados Agricultural Society and the House of Assembly expressing regret and indignation at the proposed with- drawal from the Convention.

Transmits, with remarks, resolution by the Committee of the Antigua Agri- cultural and Commercial Society, expressing alarm at the proposal of His Majesty's Government to de- nounce the penal clauses; observes that if such denunciation is followed by the ruin of the sugar industry, His Majesty's Government must be pre- pared to lower the standard of govern- ment or to continue indefinitely the system of doles.

Acknowledges No. 84, and states that His Majesty's Government have not been unmindful of the considerations submitted in the petition.

Mr. Churchill, in reply to a question by Mr. Mitchell-Thomson, said that the Secretary of State was unwilling to incur the expense of printing resolu- tions received with regard to the Sugar Convention in instalments, and that the question of printing them later, together with the covering despatches, would be considered.
