Transmits copy of a letter from the India Office respecting the appoint- ment of a third member to the Managing Committee to be nominated by the Secretary of State for India, one-half of his salary to be provided from the general funds of the Institute; states that the transfer of the management of the Institute can be effected on 1st October.
Concurs, in reply to No. 84, in the pay- mont of one-half the salary of the Indian member of the Managing Committee from the general funds of the Institute, and states that the Colonial Office is prepared to take over management on October 1.
September 21 Reports that the Advisory Committee of the Imperial Institute offer no objection to the arrangements con- templated for the transfer, which will take place from October 1, 1907: suggests that an officer of the Colonial Office should place himself in com- munication with the Board of Trade in order to acquaint himself with the method of keeping the Institute
accounts.
September 26 Acknowledges receipt of No. 86 and states that Mr. W. H. Eggett, Assis- tant Accountant of the Colonial Office, will place himself in com- munication with the Board of Trade.

I AM directed by the Board of Trade to inform you that in view of the fact, of which you are probably aware, that the grant of £2,000 per annum made to the funds of the Imperial Institute by the Royal Commissioners of the 1851 Exhibition came to an end in 1905, the Board applied to the Commissioners for a provisional continuance of the grant, pending a final decision as to the fate of certain proposals affecting the future management of the Institute.
I am to enclose, for the information of the Secretary of State, copy of the Board's letter and of the Commissioners' reply, from which it will be seen that they are unable to agree to the request made to them by this Department.

I AM directed by the Board of Trade to advert to previous correspondence with respect to the renewal and continuance of the grant of £2,000 a year made by the Exhibition Commissioners of 1851 in aid of the Scientific Department of the Imperial Institute.
In their letter of 12th February, 1904, the Commissioners stated that the grants then sanctioned were made on the distinct understanding that at the end of 1905 they would cease altogether.
Though this decision was received by the Board of Trade with great regret, they felt themselves bound to respect it, and they would not now venture to re-open the correspondence were it not that the whole situation has been materially affected by the discussion of certain proposals affecting the future management of the Imperial Institute, the general nature of which will probably be known to the Commissioners.
