January 19, 1906. I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Lordship's despatch No. 273 of the 28th November, forwarding a letter from your Prime Minister on the subject of the establishment of preferential trade relations between Australia and Canada.

2. I have forwarded a copy of your despatch and its enclosure to the Governor-General of the Dominion, for the consideration of his Ministers.

3. With reference to the third paragraph of Mr. Deakin's letter, I may observe that, as your Ministers are already aware, the Colonial Conference will in all probability be deferred till 1907.
