JAMESTOWN DRAINAGE AND WATERWORKS SCHEMES.
FINAL REPORT BY MR. CHISHOLM
PROGRESS OF THE WORKS.*
ON THE
Mr. Chisholm's final report on the progress of the works runs as follows:-
"I have the honour to inform you that the Jamestown Drainage and Waterworks which were begun in August, 1902, have now been completed in every detail, and I beg to submit the following final report on these schemes which include House Drainage and House Services.
(A.) MAIN DRAINAGE.
2. The Main Drainage Works, is, the laying of the street sowers, were commenced on the 23rd August, 1902, and completed on the 9th January, 1904, thus occupying about a fortnight over a year and four months in oon. struction.
"3. The progress made, and other matters in connection with the carry- ing out of these works, have already been referred to, in full, in my annual reports dated 7th April, 1903, 25th February, 1904, and 10th February, 1905, and as these reports cover the period of construction there is little further to add here as regards the laying of the main sewers, which, since their com- pletion, have proved to act most satisfactorily.
"4. The plans of the main drainage system shew the lines of sowers, and the position of all manholes, ventilators, &c., and the sections give the various gradients.
(B.) HOUSE DRAINAGE.
5. The scheme of House Drainage was begun on the 1st August, 1903, and was fully completed on the 2nd December, 1905, at a total cost of £7,099 5. 9, of which amount £3,285 8a. 3d. was expended in 1995. The former sum, however, includes the cost of a quantity of the various materials and 6ttings which must necessarily be kept in band for the future maintenance of the works as well as the breakages-principally stone-ware goods—in the consignments of materials imported from time to time during
