LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.
Royal Courts of Justice, December 8, 1885. We are honoured with your Lordship's commands, signified in Sir J. Paunce- fote's letter of the 26th ult., stating that he had the honour to transmit to us, by direction of your Lordship, the papers noted in the accompanying list relating to the case of the British vessel "Western Star," which was seized and sold by order of the Venezuelan authorities for having entered the Port of Cuidad Bolivar without proper papers.
That a précis of the case was enclosed.
That Sir J. Pauncefote was to request that we would favour your Lordship with our opinion as to whether any claim could properly be made under the circumstances upon the Government of Venezuela on behalf of the owner of the "Western Star,' and with any general observations which we might have to offer on the case.
