heard that in 1852, the deceased was in the Crimea, while a man named Crowe, late of the 65th Regiment, whose statement is referred to in the said Memorandum, who alleges that the deceased enlisted at Banbridge, joined the 65th Regiment in 1843, and was discharged in 1853, at the age of 28 or 29. That he came to Hobart Town in 1846, and shortly afterwards to New Zealand where he remained till his death, that his number was 2,064, and that he was never at the Curragh, nor in the Crimea.
All these facts appear to have been under consideration by the New Zealand Govern- ment, and they will no doubt consider whether the present declaration carries the matter any further or clears up the doubts that have been already raised. The want of particularity in the declaration appears to be intentional, as the Resident Magistrate, who seems to have drawn it himself, no doubt took care to confine the declarant to such facts as were within the declarant's own knowledge.
