Temple, August 8, 1870. Ws are honoured with your Lordship's commande signified in Mr. Hammond's letter of the 29th ultimo, stating that with reference to our Report of the 14th ultimo, he was directed to transmit to us the accompanying letter from the Colonial Office, enclosing a copy of a Despatch from the Governor of the Bahamas reporting the con- demnation by the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Colony of the vessels "Violin and Tweed" for breaches of the seventh section of the Foreign Enlistment Act, and to request that we would take these papers into our consideration and furnish your Lord- ship with our opinion as to how the forfeited property should be dealt with, having regard to the provisions of the local Act for the protection of the Customs revenue 17 Vict. c. 3., a copy of which was enclosed for our information.
