LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.

Temple, April 8, 1868. We are honoured with your Lordship's commande, signified in Mr. Hammond's letter of the 3rd instant, stating that with reference to his letter of the 25th ultimo he was directed by your Lordship to transmit to us a further letter from the Colonial Office relating to a demand made by the United States Government for the extradition of a man named Freeman B. Smith, and to the judgment delivered by the Canadian Court in his case, and Mr. Hammond was pleased to request that we would take this paper into our consideration and favour your Lordship with our opinion thereupon.

In obedience to your Lordship's commands we have taken this further paper into consideration, and have the honour to
