SIB,

No. 468.

(MALTA.)

FOREIGN OFFICE to COLONIAL OFFICE.

Foreign Office, June 18, 1867. Ì AM directed by Lord Stanley to request that you will inform the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos that his Lordship has caused to be referred to the Law Officers of the Crown your letter of the 17th instant, enclosing a copy of a Despatch from the Governor of Malta, together with a copy of the Ordinance therein referred to, relative to a requisition made by the Italian Consul in that Island for the extradition of a person accused of a robbery at Venice, committed before that place became part of the dominions of the King of Italy, and I am to state that the Law Officers have expressed their concurrence in the view taken by the Crown Advocate of Malta, and are of opinion that the case is not one which under the Malta Ordinance No. 1 of 1863 will justify proceedings against the accused for extradition.

The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office.

I am, &c.

(Signed)

E. HAMMOND.
