(BAHAMAS)
LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.
Mr Lond,
Lincoln's Inn, November 9, 1865. We are honoured with the commands of Earl Russell signified in Mr. Ham- mond's letter of the 1st instant, stating that with reference to our Report of the 31st of July last, respecting the case of the "Mary" or " Alexandra," he was directed by Earl Russell to transmit to us a letter from the Colonial Office enclosing a copy Oct. 25, of a Despatch from the Governor of the Bahamas in which he points out that the judge's certificate of reasonable cause of seizure had already been sent home by
him.
Mr. Hammond was also pleased to state that this statement was perfectly true, but that the Colonial Office letter sending the certificate was only dated the 24th of August, whereas our Report was dated the 31st of July.
And that he was now directed by Earl Russell to enclose that letter, and to request that we would take these further papers into our consideration and favour his Lord- ship with any observations which we might have to offer thereupon.
In obedience to the commands of Earl Russell, we have taken these papers into our consideration, and have the honour to
1885.
Report
That the only new fact in the papers now laid before us is that the judge has certified, as he thought it expedient that he should do, that there was reasonable cause of seizure.
We are glad to find that this has been done, and we think it was quite right that it should be done, but beyond this it does not occur to us to offer any remarks in addition to those which we have already had the honour to offer in
this case.
We have, &c.
(Signed)
ROUNDELL PALMER.
