That the Attorney General of the Island is under an erroneous impression in sup- posing "that these societies do not hold themselves liable for any defalcations, except-

ing there be a criminal conviction of the defaulter," no such condition being inserted

in the bonds of the European Assurance Society whose guarantee is accepted by Her Majesty's Government.
I beg further to report, that the request of Sir F. Rogers to be furnished with “ "authorised statement to be forwarded to the Colony as to the conditions subject to "which guarantee societies are liable to make good losses caused by the default of "officers guaranteed by them " may be complied with by forwarding to him the enclosed bond of the European Assurance Society, which affords the requisite informa-
