SIB,
No. 258.
(New Brunswick.)
LAW OFFICERS to COLONIAL OFFICE.
Lincoln's Inn, July 11, 1864. We are honoured with your commands, signified in Sir Frederic Rogers' letter of the 4th instant, stating that he was directed by you to acquaint us that you had communicated to the promoters of the New Brunswick and Canada Railway and Land Company Bill the objections entertained to it by the Colonial Government, together with our opinion that the progress of the Bill should be arrested.
Sir Frederic Rogers was also pleased to state that you had received in reply the letter of which a copy was enclosed, together with the draft of an amended Bill, which was also enclosed, and that he was directed to request that we would favour you with our opinion whether the amendments are such as to remove the objections to the progress of the Bill.
In obedience to your commands we have taken these papers into consideration and have the honour to
Report
That the principal objection to the Bill appears to us now to be removed, and we think that it may be permitted to be proceeded with.
The Right Hon Mr. Secretary Cardwell,
We have, &c. (Signed) ROUNDELL PALMER.
