LAW OFFICERS to COLONIAL OFFICE.
Temple, July 28, 1882. MY LORD DUKE,
We are honoured with your Grace's commands, signified in Sir Frederic Rogers' letter of the 17th June ultimo, stating that he was directed by your Grace to transmit to us the copy of an Act of the Legislature of Tasmania "to simplify the Laws relating to the Transfer and Encumbrance of Freehold and other interests in "Lands," together with a copy of the Report which was furnished by the local Attorney General on this enactment, and to add that your Grace would be glad if we would inform you whether we saw any reason why this Act should not be left to its operation, and that we should observe that it was alleged to be almost a transcript from a South Australian Act on the same subject with which we were already familiar.
In obedience to your Grace's commands we have taken this Act into consideration, and have the honour to
Report
That, in our opinion, the Act in question may be properly left to its operation.
We have, &c. (Signed) WM. ATHERTON.
