NEW SOUTH WALES.

The Patent law of the Colony is contained in the Act 16 Victoria, No. 24, which is intituled "An Act to authorise the Governor-General, with the advice of the Executive Council, to grant Letters of Registration for all inventions in the arts and manu- factures, to have the same effect as Letters-Patent in England, so far as regards this Colony."

By this Act a patentee in England is enabled to appoint an agent in this Colony; and, on the pay- ment of a sum of 201., may register his invention or Patent right here, after which he is not liable to any further charge, and is placed in possession of all the privileges to which his Patent would entitle him in England.

CEYLON.

The Queen's Advocate.-There is no local law on the subject of Patents; and, so far as I am informed, no Patent right has ever been granted in this Colony, since its acquisition by the British Govern-

ment.

In the absence of any local Ordinance or practice relating to the grant of a Colonial Patent, I am unable to say what documents may be required from an inventor, or British patentee, to enable him to make a proper application for a Patent right in this Colony.

For the same reasons I am unable to afford any information as to the official fees and expenses which might be required to be paid, should any application be made for a Patent in Ceylon.
