The following Abstract (in round numbers) of the sums voted in 1852 for Prisons and Transportation, may be of use, as affording a general idea of the scale of annual expenditure of these services, and of the comparatively small proportion of the outlay proposed in the foregoing paper, once for all, on the permanent constructions required for the accommodation of the additional number of prisoners to be detained in consequence of the partial abolition of Transportation.
