Patents granted by the Crown could be easily proved in the Court of this island, even without reference to any facilities granted by the Patents' Act, or the Act to amend the Law of Evidence. certified copy of the Letters-Patent would be admitted in evidence. It may be stated generally that the admission of evidence is not excluded by technical rules of law. Any Patent extending to this island, either by its being specially mentioned or by the Patent being granted for the Colonies generally, could be enforced here with no difficulty and with scarcely any expense.

I see no objection to Patents being granted to extend to Heligoland, but having regard to the very small size and importance of the island, I can hardly conceive any inventor would care about Heligoland being included in his Patent. If, however, any Patent should be granted to extend to Heligoland, there would be no necessity for giving any special facilities for rendering such a Patent available by proof in the Court of Heligoland, as sufficient facili- ties at present exist, as stated in the second para- graph,
