I HAVE the honour to ask that the War Department may be requested to furnish the figures relating to " Expenditure not ascertainable locally" on account of the garrison of Singapore
2. This item is the last one on page G of the Blue Book, and I shall be glad to be furnished with the figures for 1905 and 1906 for the information of the public of the Straits Settlements

To earn the Government grant the following drills are required of sappers who have been passed as efficient in previous years, viz. :—
Five infantry drills, fifteen engineers' drills, one annual inspection.
For recruits-Ten infantry drills, twenty engineers' drills, one annual inspection.
Reservists' drills.-Same as Singapore volunteer artillery. Capitation grant earned $360.

Ten 10 pr. B.L., six maxims, and four squad or carbine, one annual inspection. Total, 21 drills.
For recruits:-Twelve 10 pr. B.L., eight maxims, eight squad or carbine (or until passed by Adjutant), two lectures, one annual inspection. Total, 31 drills.
