Forwards draft Ordinance fixing military contribution at 20 per cent, to cover with copy showing all charges, amendments of the Unofficial Mem- bers, which were rejected by the Governor's personal vote, and the Bill passed as drafted; reports that he has consented to an adjournment for six weeks.

Expresses inability to accept the amend- ments to the Defence Contribution Bill proposed by the Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council in No. 2. Transmita copy of No. 1; trusts that the principle admitted in the case of railways, viz., the calculation of the uilitary contribution upon the net receipts from Government commercial undertakings, will be agreed to.
