States, in reply to No. 152, that the Colonial Government advises the introduction of a Bill empowering the Currency Commissioners to pay notes either in gold or silver at their option; announcements of further measures necessitated by the situation cannot be anticipated by furnishing information in this country.
Grants the authority requested in No. 153; it is desirable to insist on dollars being melted down before exportation to avoid future obligations in respect to them.
States that an Order in Council will be immediately bmitted empowering him to declare gold legal tender, authorising the reduction of the fine- ness of the Straits dollar to 800, and making fifty-cent pieces unlimited legal tender.
