REFERRING to paragraph 3 of Messrs. Deloitte, Dever and Company's Report of the 14th instant and our letter to you of the 15th instant,* we have now obtained from the Company and forward you the enclosed particulars showing the engage- ment of the London staff and of certain payments which have to be provided for on the 6th July, as representing allowances to wives and families in this country of officials resident in the East, pensions, and other agreed allowances. These par- ticulars are deficient in giving information as to the exact date on which the engage- juent commences, and we are obtaining further particulars in this respect.

Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Limited.
In reference to your letter of the 23rd instant,* we have communicated with the London Solicitors of the Company, and understand that they will raise no objection to assigning the lease of the London offices as soon as the Crown Agents have obtained a purchaser of the remainder of the lease, and we are promised a definite assurance in writing in this respect.
We concur in the instructions referred to in the third paragraph of your letter now under reply being given, the course to be adopted as regards the London staff of the Company having been decided on at our interview with you to-day.
