G. V. FIDDES.
London, E.C., May 12, 1905. In reply to your letter of this date, it has been arranged that Messrs. Druces & Attlee and Messrs. Sutton, Ommanney, & Rendall are to meet on Monday next to take up the matter of arbitration, when I feel sure your suggestion will receive every consideration.

(2) Proceedings of papers regarding the acquisition of the Thames steamboats
by the London County Council.
(3) A new work on compensation by Sir E. Boyle, K.C.
(4) Three copies of the Act of 1902 under which the London Waterworks were
acquired.
2. It is also desired to ascertain whether there have been any London quotations of the Tanjong Pagar Dock shares. If these have been quoted in the Stock Exchange Register or other publication that you may be aware of, I am to request that you will obtain copies of the register or other publication for the last four years.

Straits 15.
I HAVE the honour to transmit, for the information of the Secretary of State, a copy of a letter which we have received from the Government of the Straits Settle- ments requesting us to obtain certain information bearing on the question of the expropriation of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company.
2. We are taking the necessary steps to obtain the publications asked for and we will forward them in due course to the Colonial Government. Meanwhile I enclose a copy of a letter from our stockbrokers in reply to the inquiry of the Colonial Govern- ment as to whether there have been any quotations on the London Stock Exchange of the shares of the Company, as the Secretary of State may perhaps prefer to pass on the information we have obtained to the Governor rather than that we should send it direct.
GENTLEMEN,
Enclosure 2 in No. 98.
Messrs. J. and A. SCRIMGEOUR to CROWN AGENTS.
South Sea House, Threadneedle Street, London, E.C., May 9, 1905.
Straits.
In reply to your favour of the 8th instant we beg to advise that the "London and China Telegraph" is, as far as we can ascertain, the only publication in which a quotation for the shares of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company appears. This quota- tion is, however, derived from Singapore sources and is not consequent on any London transactions.
It is stated that a few shares have recently changed hands through the instru- mentality of the Secretary of the Company at £35 per share.
The "Stock Exchange Par Book " for 1905, at the end of the official information relating to this Company, states:-
"Latest quotation in Singapore $260 per share," so that, if this is correct, there appears to have been a rise of $140 per share during the last six months.
We enclose a copy of the paper* referred to and would call your attention to page 1 of the supplement therein.
