4. Each Cades will receive mlary at the rate of £225 per annum, half salary to commence from the day of leaving England, and full salary from the date of his arrival in the Colony or State to which he may be sent. A free passage to the Colony or State will be provided for the Cadet, MIRA" undertaking to refund the cost of his passage in the event of his relinquishing the appointment within three years for any other reason than mental or physical infirmity.
5. Every Cadet on arrival in the Colony or State to which he may be sent will be subject to any regulations-es 'to Qadletai (wat inoonsistent with, this pappel which may from time to time be made by the Local Government, including regulations as to examinations in native languages, dc. A Chɗet who has passed such examinations is paid at the rate of 1800 per pasqm' until he obtains a substantive appointment. Should a Cadet remain three years, after -passing his examinations, without obtaining a substantive appointment, his
salary will be increased to £350.
6. A Cadet will be liable to be dismissed if at any time his progress in his studies or his conduct shall be considered by the Government to be so unsatisfactory as to render such a course desirable. The Government will decide, having regard to the ground of dismissal, whether the Cadet shall be sent home at the public expense, or shall be left to find his own way home.
7. Subject to the necessities of the service, leave of absence on half salary may be granted after a period of six years' resident servios without any special grounds. It may be given before the expiration of that period in cases of serious indisposition, or of urgent private affairs. In the absence of special grounds, the leave in such case must not exceed one-sixth of the officer's resident service; on special grounds it may exceed that period by six months. In addition to the above, vacation leave on full pay may be granted; if no inconvenience or expense is caused thereby, not exceeding three months in any two years.
8. The present rule ha to superannuation is that in the case of ill health an officer may be allowed to retire on a pension after ten full yeses' resident service; otherwise he must have attained the age of 55. For ten fall years' resident service fifteen-sixtieths of the average annual salary of the retiring offoer's fixed appointments for the three years prior to retirement may be awarded, to which one-sixtieth may be added for mch additional year's service ; but no addition will be made in respect of any service beyond 85 years. For pension purposes absence on vacation leave counts se full servies, and leave ou half pay as half service.
9. A deduction of 4 per cent. is made from the salaries of all Oudots an contribution to one or other of the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Funds of the two Colonies or of the Federated Malay Status.
10. The currencies of Hong Kong, the Straits Settlements, and the Fadentari Malay States are silver dollar currencies. For purposes of payments in Hong

Kong, salaries fixed in sterling are converted into dollars at a rate fixed by the Government, and based upon the average exchange value of the dollar during the mouth ending on the fifteenth of the month for which salary is to be paid. In the Straits Settlements and the Federated Malay States malaries are converted at a fixed rate of 2s. 4d, to the dollar.
11. The Civil Service of these Colonies and States is at present classified as follows, but no guarantee whatever is given that the numbers and conditions of the appointments or the salaries attached to them will remain unaltered. Moreover, some of the posts included in these classes are not exclusively confined to officers originally appointed as Cadets.
