In this return the dollar is taken at 8s. 8d., the value when the expenditure was incurred.
• In this return the dollar is taken at the value used for conversion from currency to sterling in the Colonial Office list for the various years—viz., up to 1879, at 48. 8d.; in 1880 and 1881, at da,; in 1882, at 8s. 7d.; in 1983, at 3s. Bd. ; and since that date at 3. 7d., except as regards the Imperial contribution, which is converted at the annual official rate.
In addition to the expenditure shown in this column an armed Sikh Police foros is maintained. The details of its cost for each year are not obtainable, but for 1888 it in estimated to cost 40,000 dollars. The local expenditure includes, from 1878, a sum of 5,000 dollars as proportion of Works Establishment.
This drop in the revenue is apparent, not real, and is caused by the dollar in 1882 having bean valued at 34. 7d. instead of 4s,, the value in 1880 and 1881.
• These amounts are not reclaimed.
